Side embroidery on hats and a line on the back are the easiest ways to make a plain logo hat feel finished. The side is perfect for something small: a year, an initial, a flag-style icon or a first name. The back, above the closure, is great for a website, phone number, slogan or player number. Keep both simple and bold, since these spots are smaller than the front.
Ideas for side embroidery on hats
- A year: “EST. 2019” or the season, like “2026”.
- A first name or nickname: great for crews, teams and gifts.
- A small icon: a star, a leaf, a wrench, a paw, a state outline.
- A second brand mark: a monogram or symbol from your logo.
- A role: “COACH”, “CREW”, “GROOM”.
Ideas for the back of a hat
- Your website or phone number: turns every hat into a moving sign.
- A slogan or tagline: the part of your logo that’s too small for the front.
- A player number or last name: a team favorite.
- A location: your town, state or the event’s place and date.
How much fits in each spot
The front has the most room. The sides and back are smaller, and our designer shows the stitch area for each spot so you can see how much fits. Keep text at least about a quarter inch tall, and stick to one line on the sides and one or two short lines on the back.
Hat-by-hat notes
- Trucker hats like the Richardson 112: the sides are mesh, so keep side designs small and simple. We check side stitching on every order before we start.
- Fitted caps like the Flexfit 6277: the closed back gives back text the most room.
- New Era 39THIRTY: the New Era flag is on the left side, so only the right side can carry a design. The back and front are open.
- Snapbacks and strapbacks: back text sits above the opening.
- Beanies: the front of the cuff is the only spot.
What side and back spots cost
Each extra spot is priced per hat and gets cheaper in bulk. Text on a side or the back adds $8 a hat for one hat, down to $3 at 100 or more. A logo there adds $15 a hat for one hat, down to $4 at 100 or more. See the full pricing table for every break.
Design tips
- Use the same thread color as your front logo for a matching set, or one accent color for a pop.
- Choose a bold block font for small side and back text.
- Don’t overload the hat. One extra spot often looks better than three.
Quick answers
Can every hat have a different name on the side?
Yes. Add each hat with its own name. Text prices count every hat in the order.
Can I put a logo on both sides?
On most caps, yes. On the New Era 39THIRTY, only the right side is available.
Add a side or back design
Open the hat designer, use the tabs above the hat to switch to a side or the back, and add your text or logo. Your price updates as you go.
